Police Department Special Notice: Sunday, August 2

Attention Little Silver Residents: On August 2nd, Monmouth Park Race Track will be hosting the 2015 Haskell Horse Race. This event is expected to draw over 60,000 spectators as the current Triple Crown winner, American Pharaoh, will be racing.
This event, combined with summer beach traffic, is anticipated to create extremely heavy vehicular traffic situations within the Borough of Little Silver. The major roadways affected include, but are not limited to:
Oceanport Ave., Branch Ave., Rumson Road, Seven Bridges Road and Silverside Ave.

Police Officers will be at major intersections for traffic control and direction. Please plan ahead and expect delays in travel time during the daytime and evening hours on Sunday August 2nd.

The purpose of National Night Out is to promote awareness of crime prevention and safety programs available to the public, young and old. Hopefully, this event will be held annually to bring our residents closer to our police and community businesses as well.
Free food, music, children's activities including bounce houses, dunk tank, emergency vehicles, demonstrations, crime prevention tips.

The grace period has been extended to August 12 (in office-no postmarks) due to the late mailing of annual bills.
Online Tax Payment Option

Hurricane Sandy Claims Review: Registration Deadline Sept. 15 (pdf)
The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is reminding National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) policyholders, who filed a claim as a result of Hurricane Sandy, that September 15, 2015 is the last day to register to have their claim files reviewed if they believe their claims were underpaid.

Little Silver Nature Trails (pdf)
John Heidema is an active naturalist and Environmental Commission member, with particular interest in the Nature Trails of Little Silver. He often tours those trails, tools in hand, helping to keep the trails free of obstructions and clear of invasive weeds and plant overgrowth. Along the way, John always reports back with interesting sightings and observations on his travels. We urge residents to share the enjoyment of these trails, and hope you’ll be inspired to take a tour of the trails after reading on for the most recent “Heidema Report”.
Landscaper Licensing Required (pdf)
Effective July 1st per Borough Ordinance 768-15 Commercial Landscapers are now required to obtain a license to do business in the Borough of Little Silver. The fee for 2015 is $25 and license applications are available in the Borough Clerk’s office Monday thru Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Change in Construction Offices Services
Effective July 1, 2015 the Borough of Little Silver has entered into a Shared Service with the Borough of Rumson for Construction Office services. The Rumson Construction Department is located at 80 E. River Road, Rumson. For more information click on Planning Board page under "Departments" above.
Part time Position:
Borough of Little Silver is looking for an Office Assistant approximately 20 hours per week in Borough Clerk’s Office. Flood Insurance, Claims Questions Assistance (pdf)
FEMA has launched an NFIP (National Flood Insurance Program) call center pilot program to better support policyholders with the servicing of their claims.
Policyholders who may have questions about their flood policy can call 1-800-621-3362, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. (CST). Support is also available online by downloading a Request for Support form at www.fema.gov/national-flood-insurance-program which can be filled out and emailed to FEMA-NFIP-Support@fema.dhs.gov or faxed to 540-504-2360.

Do not use or put plastic bags in recycling, for home pickup or at Public Works Recycling Center.

Short Term Rental Assistance for Sandy-impacted Homeowners (pdf)
The New Jersey Housing and Mortgage Finance Agency (HMFA) Board recently approved the Rental Assistance Program (RAP) to help homeowners in the State’s major home rebuilding programs pay for temporary housing while their primary residences are undergoing repair or elevation. The program will begin accepting applications on March 16.

In 2013 the Assessment Demonstration Program was signed into law. Monmouth County was one of the first counties to accept the challenges of this new cost saving program.
Monmouth County Multi-Jurisdictional Natural Hazard Mitigation Plan
Monmouth County and its 53 municipalities have been working on the update of the Monmouth County Multi-Jurisdictional Natural Hazard Mitigation Plan since August of 2012. The first county wide plan was completed in 2009. The plan is a documented evaluation of the natural hazards to which a community is susceptible and the extent to which these events will occur.
