The swine flu is serious enough for the White House to declare a national Health emergency. This was a procedural step to allow release of resources that can be deployed to contain the spread of swine flu. Clinically, all of the cases in the USA have been mild. National and local authorities are doing their part to contain the spread of swine flu. At the same time, all of us have a role in containing the spread and preventing the swine flu from entering our communities.
A few simple steps that all of us individually take may make a difference and protect our families and community.
1. Keep a pack of tissues with you 2. Please do NOT cover your mouth with your hand when coughing. 3. Cough into a tissue. No tissues? We suggest coughing into your elbow, shoulder or sleeve. 4. Do NOT touch your face, eyes, or nose when outside your home. Use tissues, if you must. 5. Wash your hands when you reach your place of work. 6. When you go shopping bring hand wipes to wipe off the shopping carts 7. When you return home, wash your hands and face before you greet family and friends. 8. If you have a cough or are concerned, please call your doctor for further guidance.
The authorities at the national, state, and local level are doing their best to help contain the spread of swine flu. Let’s help them in this effort by taking these few steps to protect our community.
