Announcements Message from Mayor Castleman, June 2010
Little Silver’s Going Green Little Silver has registered with Sustainable Jersey. Sustainable Jersey is a joint effort initiated by the Mayor’s Committee for a Green Future (a sub-group of the League of Municipalities), the New Jersey Sustainable State Institute and the Municipal Land Use Center at the College of New Jersey. Sustainable Jersey provides a certification process for municipalities that wish to “go green”. The program provides a framework for municipalities with a comprehensive list of actions that can be taken to achieve certification. For every action that is achieved, a municipality will earn points. Once 100 points are achieved a municipality will become certified. Municipalities who join will receive the benefits associated with the implementation of various sustainable actions, such as savings through energy efficiency, member municipalities will also receive greater consideration when applying for certain sustainable grants. School Budgets The purposed budget for the Little Silver School District for the 2010–2011 school year in the amount of $10,467,963.00 was defeated by the voters of the Borough of Little Silver. The Borough of Little Silver and the Little Silver School Board have determined that the amended budgetary reductions of $151,000.00 will still permit the Board to provide its students with a thorough and efficient education. The Borough of Little Silver certified to the Monmouth County Board of Taxation that the amount of the Budget for 2010–2011 school year less $151,000.00 will result in a total tax levy of $10,316,963.00 The voters of the municipalities constituting the Red Bank Regional District defeated the $18,541,390.00 proposed tax levy for the 2010-2011 budget year. The Boroughs of Little Silver, Shrewsbury and Red Bank consulted with the Board of Education of the Regional District and it was determined that the budget be reduced by $270,500.00 for the 2010–2011 school year. The Borough finds that the reductions will still permit the Board to provide its students with a thorough and efficient education. The Borough of Little Silver certified to the Monmouth County Board of Taxation that the amount of the budget for the 2010–2011 school year less $270,500.00 will result in a total tax levy of $18,270,890.00.
